Happy New Year and welcome back to the Star Wars HoloNet Digest, a weekly feature where I bring you a recap of the latest news from the world of Star Wars. Whether it’s a movie announcement or a noteworthy author interview, you’ll find it here. Let’s check the HoloNet and see what happened in the last week. We’ve got a few Star Wars literature releases to put on your radar this week. On Tuesday, Del Rey released Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne. It’s a first-person Luke Skywalker novel that shows Luke wrestling with the Force and his place in the Rebellion. And today, Marvel is releasing Star Wars: Princes Leia #1, written by Mark Waid with art by Terry and Rachel Dodson. Princes Leia is a miniseries—the first of several, according to interviews with Marvel editor Jordan White—and it takes a unique approach to Leia’s character, focusing not on her sparring with Han or her frustrations with the Rebellion, but on her response to the destruction of Alderaan and the scattering of survivors from her home world. News and announcements for Star Wars Celebration Anaheim (April 16-19) just keep coming. Lucasfilm has announced that Ian McDiarmid will attend the convention for panels and signings. Joining him are Celebration regulars like Bonnie Piesse, John Morton, and Erik Bauersfeld. Lucasfilm talent like Leland Chee, Pablo Hidalgo, Jennifer Heddle, and Amy Beth Christenson will also attend and take part in panels. The great thing about these Lucasfilm veterans attending Celebration is that there’s nothing like hearing from the people creating new Star Wars stories in their own words. Along those lines, we’ve rounded up several interviews with Star Wars creators for your perusing pleasure. UAE newspaper the National talked to a helicopter pilot who worked on The Force Awakens, Slashfilm interviewed Star Wars standalone film writer Chris Weitz, and Lucasfilm kicked off a multi-part Dave Filoni interview about Star Wars Rebels Season One. Speaking of Star Wars Rebels…how about that season finale? Wasn’t it incredible? My full review is available here, but to keep it short: Wow! There are all kinds of exciting things coming next season—including a new Rebels cast member, Sarah Michelle Gellar! Gellar, who is the wife of series regular Freddie Prinze Jr., will join the cast in an unannounced role. I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s next. And now, here’s your Star Wars palette-cleanser, We’d-Actually-Watch-That Edition.
A Star Wars stand alone film, but it's about the first stormtrooper courageous enough to rock a Hawaiian shirt on Casual Friday. — Henry (@BeerforBukowski) February 25, 2015
